We traveled in to Portland to visit a railroad that it’s tracks are only 2 feet wide. We went for ride on the
Narrow Gauge Railroad. A little history…These 2-foot gauge steam trains connected rural Maine with the rest of the world from 1879 until just before World War II. The reign of the 2-footers thundering through Maine’s countryside lasted until the dawning of the modern era of paved roads, trucks, and private automobiles.
This ride had some good views looking out one side was green vegetation and sea shore building and beautiful cost line on the other…although all the kids enjoyed themselves this was right up Aiden’s ally, You can see it in his face. Each of them had a million questions about the RR OR LIFE IN GENERAL as small talk was a hit with the girls. Of course in true breastfed baby style she got to eat aboard as well. This was one of the
50 Things to do in Maine with your kids before they grow up. We can check this off our list.
